OWN your saturday morning.

I'm going to share a secret with you.  I know that once this secret is out of the bag, my life will be ruined because I know you'll all be jumping on the bandwagon, but I think you're worth it.

The secret is this: the best time to go grocery shopping is on Saturday morning between 8 and 10 am.

That's right, you guys. We're talking PRIME TIME.  I didn't mean to discover it, but let me tell you how I did anyway.  So, I don't have a car, right?  And that can present a bit of problem in the grocery shopping area unless you're really dedicated and are willing to walk to the grocery store.  I'll admit, I've done that before, but it turns out I'm really not one to do that unless I'm literally down to nothing but saltine crackers (and even then, I resist it at all costs).  So anyway, if I want to drive to the grocery store, I try to wait until a time that I know for sure my roommate Danielle won't be using her car.  Turns out I can guarantee with about 98% certainty that she won't be using her car on Saturdays before noon, because girl does not treat Saturday morning sleeping in lightly.  It's the only day she can sleep in, so she takes full advantage of it.  And then there's me who literally hates sleeping in past 9 am because I feel like I'm wasting my life away.  And so on Saturdays, I usually wake up around 8 or 8:30.  Now, just because I wake up then doesn't mean I'm actually ready to like go out and party or anything. I usually end up  hanging out in my sweats until close to 10 am.  So one time I woke up and was like, I should just go grocery shopping.  And so I did.  And's it been one of the greatest decisions ever. Let me tell you why.

First of all, the traffic is minimal.  It's so great to be out driving when not very many other people are.  Since this is really the only time I drive, driving can stress me out a little bit.  Knowing that not EVERY road enraged human is on the road at that time is terrifically comforting.

Second, the grocery store is 0% crowded.  Not a joke, you guys.  You don't have to weave your cart around anyone and the shelves are all restocked and nothing has been picked over yet.  Seriously, it's awesome.

Third, this is the ultimate prime time for donuts, friends.  Seriously, every time I go I get myself two donuts (can I try to justify that by saying they're small?  No?  Fine then, I'll just say I'm worth it, SO THERE.).  Seriously though.  Mmm, so fresh (said using the voice of the aunt from A Cinderella Story when she says, "Mmm, so moist."). Obviously this is one of my very favorite parts of the whole excursion.

Fourth, it's 8 am so you don't have to be all dressed and ready for the world.  It's fantastic; I wake up, put pants on (I know you're thinking, "uhh, tmi?" but what I'm trying to say is that I usually do change out of my sweats into pants, so chill out, YO), and head out the door.  No makeup, no hair brushing, and only if we're lucky do I brush my teeth.

Fifth, your grandmother is there.  Not a joke, actually.  Turns out the only other people who are up and ready to go at 8 am are your grandparents.  But here's the thing: they are the cutest.  I cannot tell you how many times I see these couples up and about; grandma is all dressed and has her hair did, and grandpa has his Saturday button-up shirt and cardigan and his white sneakers on.  I cannot get over how adorable it all is.  You guys, grandparents are so great.  And I can honestly say there aren't many people I would rather be with during my Saturday morning shopping time.  It's great--their shopping habits convince me not to buy junk food, and my lazy clothing choice, sloppy hairstyle, and low levels of alertness only confirm their ideas that our society is headed rapidly downhill.

So now that I've persuaded all of you to go grocery shopping early on Saturday morning, I suppose we ought to carpool, right? See you then!

I hate to tell you, but we figured out that secret as well! We won't tell anyone else, thought!! When my Grandparents were still living, we would even run into them there at that time!!

I detest grocery shopping, but Saturday mornings aren't bad. The crowd is light and lines are short. I think that is the worst part, besides the fortune I shell out and the fact that my kids take exactly 3.1 minutes to eat about $300 worth of food. Glad you found your secret time!

Even bigger secret, because it is true, AND it proves I am more lame than you? Friday nights after 9PM are ACTUALLY THE BEST. :) But, I would carpool with you on Saturday mornings anytime.... for the sake of feeling a little less lame. :)

I very much love that you wrote "A Cinderalle Story". Also, I very much love that you were writing about A Cinderalle Story in the first place.
