Cecil Said It Best

So, I was casually walking through the Wilk the other day, when I looked up and saw this poster that had a quote on it by the president of BYU, Cecil Samuelson.  It read:

"You are really and quite completely in control of those things of most importance."

Sometimes life is a little rough, and I just want to blame other people or circumstances for it.  I get so annoyed sometimes when I really shouldn't.  I get so frustrated when there's no need to be.

Those things in life which are of most importance are completely under my control.  I can decide how I am going to respond to a situations.  I can decide what I am going to do with my life.  I can decide what kind of person I want to be and how I am going to become that person.

I have goals and it's up to me to see that I accomplish them.

I can make this world a better place.  That sounds a little overwhelming and mildly ridiculous, I know, but it's true.  All too often, I think we forget how the littlest things do the most.  If you think about all the times a smile from someone else has made your day even just a little bit better, then how great is it that you can have that same effect on someone else.

I was having such the crappy, busy, stressful, hungry day a couple of weeks ago.  I was running late to class, but I really had to use the facilities.  When I came out, there was a post-it note on the mirror that said something like "Smile because you're beautiful".  Now, to be completely honest, I already know I'm beautiful...ha.  No, but really.  Someone took the time to write that note because they knew it would make someone's day.  The actual message of the note didn't actually make my day, it was just made me realize that there are some seriously awesome people out there.  People who just do things like that because it is nice.

Why am I not doing that more?

While we're on the topic of my beauty, I was talking to this girl in my ward about the Women's Services program here, because she works there.  She was telling me about this woman who had been in a airplane accident and was seriously burned.  I had seen a video she was in, and then the other day I was walking down the hall and I saw a poster advertising a presentation she was going to be doing or something.  Again, it was one of those days where life was just being annoying.  The main cause of my stress was probably the fact that I was having a bad hair day and I didn't like the way my shirt was working with my jeans.  It kind of made me step back and think about how ridiculous I was being.  There is so much dang beauty in this world, I don't even know what to do about it.  And what am I doing?  Focusing on my outfit.

Just step back for two seconds and look at the world around you.  It has so much to offer.

Don't we have something to offer to the world?  A smile, a hug, a lint roller? (Seriously, people should consider keep those on hand more often)

I don't know...I kinda sidetracked from my original topic.

Moral of the story:  I have every reason to be happy, and no real reason to be unhappy.

Stacy...This one's for you...You're the meaning in my life...you're the inspiration! Can you hear me singing? Seriously though...I really needed to read that right now. Life's rough, but I can make it a lot less abrasive because I have control over the little life choices. I can choose to make life great. I love you. Thanks for inspiring me.
