But Then...

So for the past few weeks, I'm afraid I don't know what has gotten into me.  I swear, every day I find myself wishing for this one thing that I've never wished for before.  It still blows my mind that I want it.  In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm so confused as to why I would want it that it gives me a headache.  Or maybe that's just because I haven't been eating my meals very consistently. One can never be too sure about that one...

Anyway, about this thing.  Are you ready to hear what it is?  Because I'm pretty sure I keep putting off telling you because I'm not ready to reveal this to you.  Alright.  Here it is:

For the past few weeks, I have been wishing quite regularly for...

snow.

WHAT?!???!?!!!!?!!?!?!!

I know, right?  What has gotten into me?  Maybe there's a small winter creature living inside my head telling me to wish for winter while simultaneous digging its little claws into my brain? (that would explain the headaches...) I don't know...I really don't know.  Maybe I've been eyeing my beanies lately, hoping to be able to wear them soon?

Seriously though, I'm stumped.  But still, that little voice in my head (oh good, now we're talking about voices in my head...we can now circle insanity on the list of possible reasons for my current predicament) keeps telling me that I'm excited for winter.  And so, a few days ago, I just accepted it.  As ridiculous as it might sound, I accepted the fact that I'm stoked for winter. I'm excited to wear all my cute warm clothes and drink hot chocolate and see the Christmas lights and watch the snow drifting toward the ground so prettily.  Everything looks so perfect when it is covered in a fresh coat of snow and I can't help but think about how awesome it will be when winter is here.

But then...

I was walking home from the library yesterday at 10:45 pm (shout-out to myself for getting out of the library before 11 pm for the first time this week...did I mention how I have no friends?) and noticed that it was a bit chilly.  Granted, I was wearing my flip flops (you know, the ones with the big hole in them that people are always telling me should not be worn in public--but what do they know, right?), my badminton shorts (yes, badminton shorts), a t-shirt and a light jacket.

So I mean, yeah, maybe I could have been better prepared, but because I was wearing such an awesome outfit, I was reminded of something on that walk home.  It was chilly.  And in Utah, chilly quickly turns into cold and then cold rapidly turns into freezing and then I'm trying to locate my nose because I'm pretty sure it fell off half a mile back.

Then I remember how awesome it is to walk to work at 7:20 in the morning when it is TWO DEGREES outside and there's a fresh layer of snow that hasn't been shoveled yet and I just so happen to be one of the first five people to walk through it so it makes that sound when you step on it--you know, the one that gives you the same feeling as when you squeeze a cotton ball--or I'm slipping and sliding on the stuff that was once snow but is now very slippery ice and I'm thinking to myself, oh yeah.  I just remembered why I kept wishing for winter.  I think it had something to do with the fact that the aforementioned monster creature was clawing at my eyeballs and wouldn't stop until I told him I was super stoked for winter. Duh.

How could I have forgotten?

So, I don't know.  I think I'm just confused.

Mostly I think the winter creatures need to get out of my life so I can stop thinking about the weather and focus on more important things.

Like buying winter clothes.

Gupta, Gurkin, Maybe, Tie, Dye, Obama, Bush, Lucy, Kennedy, and More. (We're not very responsible pet owners, to say the least)

*Disclaimer: I'm still going to be here for a while, no worries.  I just got to thinking and this post was inspired.

*Also, featured throughout are a small (and I mean small) sampling of pictures from my freshman year.  I would get some from my other years, but just looking at my freshman pictures took me over an hour because I wanted to look at them all, so I figure this is good enough for now.

I kind of just had the coolest little experience.

Today while I was sitting on the couch, there was a knock at the door.  I opened it, and there stood four girls.  They told me that they had lived in this apartment 5 or 6 years ago and they were wondering if they could just come and take a look around.

I let them come in and look around and they just went on and on about how much they missed it here, and "don't you just miss being a college kid...those were the days."  One of them told me how she kissed her husband for the first time on our back porch and another talked of how a poster we have hanging was there when they lived there and how they did this and that and "remember how we could see Timp from here" and "I never had more fun than when I lived here".

After they left, it got me thinking about how much I love living here in Provo.  Yeah, some people hate it and some cannot wait until they can get out of here, but I'm being completely serious when I say that I wish I could freeze time and be this age forever.  I wish I could live all these college years over again, because they have seriously been so awesome.  It's crazy how life just keeps moving forward and you have these roommates and then you become best friends and then those best friends/roommates get engaged and married and I'm sitting here wondering how all that time just flew by.  I mean seriously, I cannot believe it's been nearly three years since I first moved here and met my five freshman roommates.  I cannot believe that I'll be marrying off my last one (yes, that's right--they're my children) on June 30.  I cannot believe our fish funerals were so long ago, or the Single Ladies video or the time Moroni came to visit or when we did our exercises before watching 24 or when we discovered the air condition at Lib Square or when we had that lame waiter at Spark or the collection of quote boards are just memories of the past.

It is so weird to me and it makes me a little sad.  I mean, I knowing moving on is cool and stuff, but seriously.  These have been the best years of my life.  I've had the time of my life.  I've never learned so much or grown so much or seen so much or aspired to be as much as I have here.  I've never laughed so hard, been so ridiculous, or taken as many pictures as I have here.  Here.  It's the best and I hope I make the rest of my time here absolutely unforgettable because seriously, I'll never regret it.

My Legitimate Concern.

I love Provo and all, but when I see a guy legitimately practicing his lightsaber skills outside alone at 12:30 at night, I get a little concerned about this place.

Plus, it was a red lightsaber, so I'm pretty sure that means he's a bad guy.

Should I be worried about my safety?

hey, so i sort of thought you were going to give me good news...

Today I went to see my good friend, Dr. W.  See, I was kind of thinking we could become even better friends today.  And by "better friends" I mean that I hoped we would never have to see each other again.  Now, I don't have anything against my main man the hand doctor, but I just really think I'd like him better if I didn't have to see him...ever.

So, today I went to the Student Health Center bright and early.  No, but really.  Early.  I got there at 7:35.  But in all honesty, it was a pretty nice walk.  It wasn't bitter freezing like it has been and I think we're starting to see hints of that awesome thing called summer.  Plus, I was pretty excited because at my last appointment, the doc told me that I would probably get to lose the brace at my next appointment.  I have been SOOOO good about wearing my brace all day every day, so I was like, "Homeboy, you better say the brace can leave at my next appointment, because I am so over it."

When I got there they took some new x-rays so that the doc could verify that the little bone chip dude had gone the way of the ghost.  That was fine.  I was a little nervous because the x-ray guy said my hand was definitely more bruised than it should have been, but not to worry because it wasn't an entirely uncommon or abnormal thing.  My worries subsided.  I headed back to the waiting room to wait for Dr. Dubs.

Side note:  Since Dr. W only comes on Mondays, every single time that I've been there, this other kid is there to see him as well.  And every single time he gets to go before me.  Now, it doesn't really matter to me, but considering the last two times I have had the first appointment of the day, it confuses me a little bit.  But whate'er.  He had to get a hard cast and I didn't, so I'm over it.  Plus, he also had a black eye on that first day we were there, and I'm totally not jealous.

Anyway, I finally got to see the doc and he looked at the new x-rays.  Then he told me to take off the splint and he put pressure on different areas of my wrist and asked me if it hurt.  They all hurt.  But I figured that was okay...I figured it was just sore from not moving a lot in the past six weeks and that it was doing a fine job healing and we could just part ways and hopefully never see each other again.

But then he started doing that "Hmmm"-ing thing.  "Hmmm"-ing is not cool in the medical business.  I was not impressed.

Homeboy, tell me what is with all the "hmmm"-ing or Imma break out my karate moves and I've never taken any karate lessons, so it might get a little interesting.

But then when he did tell me what was up, I kind of wanted to be like, Hey, can we just go back to the part where you just "hmmm"-ed and I don't know about the bad news you're about to give me?  It was better back then...

"So, Stacy.  I have some bad news.  It appears that when we looked at your x-rays 6 weeks ago, we missed a bone that fractured, or broke, during your original injury in addition to that chipped bone."

Oh, no you di'int. No dang way.  Nope.  Don't believe you.  It's not even April Fool's day, so mostly you just look like a fool by telling me that joke.

But alas, there was no joke.

Now, I think doctors are great and stuff, but I wasn't exactly happy with the man at this point.  I kind of wanted to be like, "Hey, really?  Did you have to do that to me today?  How about you give the bad news to homeboy over there who has the hard cast, because I mean, really.  He keeps cutting in line to see you so he kind of had it coming to him anyway, don't you think?  Come on, share that news with someone else, okay?  Just not me."

He didn't really go for that one.  He went on to tell me that a broken "scaffoid" or whatever it was called is the most commonly missed broken bone in the wrist, which makes me wonder why they didn't look a little closer six weeks ago to make sure mine wasn't broken.  But alas, a doctor can only be so perfect.  He's a really good guy and I don't mean to rag on him, it's just a little frustrating considering I now have to go and get a CT scan, or "cat scan" or whatever it is tomorrow.  Then they have to see if the bone has been healing properly or if they're going to have to go in and do surgery during which they would casually put a screw in my wrist. nbd.

So, at this point, the best case scenario is that I will be wearing this splint for yet another 3-6 weeks, and worst case scenario is the screw in my wrist.  Yeehaw.

But again, I just want to say I'm grateful for Dr. Dubs.  He's a pretty nice guy and he honestly didn't mean to miss the broken scaffoid (sp?).

And oh yeah.  Remember that part where summer is coming soon to a Provo near you?  That means I'll be sweatin' double time in this dang splint.  I'll just have to make the best of it...which may mean washing the splint every day to save the world from a stench that is so very unbecoming.

So here's to making the best of the situation.  That means if I see you around, you'd better open that door for me and carry any and all waffle arns that may be in my presence. ha.

Bada Bing, Bada Booyah!

Hey, e'erbody!  I've got some big news about Rachel!

Homegirl is...

not PREGNANT.

(had you for a second there...)

No, homegirl got an internship!

For the fall!

In Utah!

You go, girl!

She's going to be hanging out with people who have maturity levels quite similar to her own.  That's right, folks.  She'll be traveling all over Utah and Idaho telling high school kids about how awesome BYU is.  No, but really.  That's her job.  And, it includes some pretty awesome perks (i.e. free business professional clothes, $40 a DAY for food, etc.).  I'm kind of jealous, I'll be honest.

In other news, homegirl and I hung out in the library today...behind the bookshelves, where no one else would bother us.  Or should I say, where no one else could be bothered by us.

And behind those shelves is where we practiced our modeling poses, which is something we have always found hilarious...not exactly sure why.

But then again, how could you not find homegirl's face to be hilarious?

Barney the Dinosaur.

Awesome things about today:

-People kept coming into where I work because they had to sign permission slips to go on a field trip to the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point for a class about questioning scientific claims.  I used one or more of the following lines after they gave the permission slip back to me:

a. "Alright, it looks like you just signed your life savings away to me.  I appreciate that."

b. "Hmm, this is for your scientific claims class, eh?  I bet you're going to learn that dinosaurs never existed.  It's all just a BIG, FAT LIE!"

c. "Have fun hanging out with the dinosaurs!"

d. "Tell Barney I say 'Hi!'"

-I got many-a-compliment on my awesome new cardigan. (Slight problem though...I should have thought a little more before I walked out of the house wearing jeans, flats, and just the cardigan and an undershirt.  LAYERS, STACY. LOTS OF LAYERS. THIS IS UTAH, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

-I, Stacy, straightened my hair today.  It's been three weeks, and boy and I'm happy to be back at it.  This dang wrist will no longer set me back in this area of my life. (Side note:  My wrist is ultra sore today from all the crazy wrist movements--however slight--that occurred while reaching over my head and across my face to get the job done.  But I don't care.)

-I saw Jamesy in the library today.  He said he'll follow my blog if I mention him in my post.  Actually, I take that back.  I bribed him to follow my blog by telling him that I'd mention him in this very post.

-I saw Ken and Rachael (not to be confused with Kenneth and Rachel) in the library today.  So obviously Ken and I had a photoshoot.

a. I'm wearing my backpack.

b. I'm not a macbook owner, so photobooth confuses me.  Hence the confused faces in at least 2/3 of the pics.

Go team, go.

Festival of Colors!

Last weekend I went to the Festival of Colors for the first time and it was rather enjoyable (except for the part where katie said she would take us to ice cream after and then didn't...ha).  I guess some of you might not know what the Festival of Colors is, and I'll be honest--I don't really know what it's all about either.  I think it's a Hindu festival that welcomes in spring by throwing all different colors of chalk in the air; I've also heard that they used to throw flower petals in the air instead.  Either way, it's pretty cool.

There are tons of people there and everyone throws their chalk at the same time and it makes a gigantic cloud (see this video--it's a pretty good representation of what goes down http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdRjoLZ55VY). Spanks and I made sure to cover our mouths when the chalk was thrown because that stuff is NASTY.  Also, the throw seems to go on forever, so it's kind of nice if you have your mouth somewhere were you can actually breathe. It was quite an experience with my arm in a brace, but Racha just covered it in plastic wrap and I was lookin' fiiiine.  I only slipped on my arm once.  That was actually pretty lame.  Also, typing is lame and so I think I'll just post pictures now.

Hare Krishna!
